I used to think having a video camera on your phone was the dumbest thing ever. It seemed to me that it was too easy to drain the battery life of your phone by using the video camera...
However, now I wish I had a better video camera on my phone! It's really handy when I see Fifi doing something fun!

In this first video, Fifi is playing in the playground at the mall. She meets yet another young man whom she decides would be fun to play with right away!
The second video was taken at Izzy's house, during the Potty Training Party this past weekend. The babies dance and drum!
In this last video, Fifi is just cruising around at our local Target. It's a lot of fun, as you see her stopping to examine various objects. I'm amazed at her ability to stop and change direction on a dime! She should go to the NFL Combine!

Baby Sofia Milestones, Entry No. 6: Happy Sweet Sixteen!
Sixteen Months, that is!
It's been sixteen months since Baby Fifi was born, and still every day she captivates Cherry and me. Sixteen months is as good a time as any to have another Baby Milestones post!
Playing
Over the last several months, Fifi's repertoire of play activities has expanded quite a bit. She is quite strong, capable of hanging from my pullup bar for several seconds and pulling herself onto play surfaces that are about as high as her chin level - and, if something is too high, she's learned to carry boxes and other items to serve as a step stool to help her achieve her lofty goals!
She's also quite a social one, despite not having gone to day care or kiddie school. I'm not sure how she picks which kids she decides to play with, but when she decides to play with a kid (usually the decision is made in a few seconds), she will go straight up to them and "talk" to them, play peek-a-boo, give them snacks, chase them around, and otherwise mimic their actions. She's a quick learner and will pick up most any activities people demonstrate for her:
Eating
I give Cherry a lot of credit for making sure that Fifi's diet is balanced and sufficient - we take a lot of pride in her health and her retention of "Michelin Man Arms" even at 16 months, yet without being grossly overweight.. Since the holiday break, Fifi's diet now includes cereal with milk, meatballs, pieces of fruit, and morsels of our own table food as we are slowly weaning her away from purees. She's usually pretty interested in eating the solid food, but it takes a long time for her to finish her portion. We started by letting her feed herself, but outside of foods she really likes, like string cheese or crackers that give her an allergic reaction, she usually won't finish her food. For the first few weeks, after a certain point, she would refuse to eat and often this ended up with her vomiting because she's fighting us - it was endlessly frustrating and it occurred almost every day. Finally, we backed off a little bit and gradually we've ramped her solid food intake up. Since then, meal time has been much smoother!
Medical Care
Generally speaking, Fifi is in excellent health. Coming home from the holidays, both Cherry and I caught some kind of bug, but Fifi made it through the whole deal without ever catching it from us.
We recently took her to her awesome dentist, Dr. Kristin, again, and she told us that we weren't brushing right (validated by how much plaque she was able to scrape off with a single swipe). That's partially because up until this point, we've pretty much let Fifi brush her own teeth and we hadn't flossed her at all. So, I've started brushing her teeth for her. She's actually pretty cooperative, opening her mouth to let me floss and brush her, but after a while she does tire of it and it becomes somewhat tough. Still, she is very receptive and hasn't rejected brushing her teeth yet!
At her 15 month checkup, however, Fifi's pediatrician diagnosed her with a mild case of labial adhesion, a condition that sometimes appears in baby girls as the estrogen from her mother starts to wear off. As a result, her vaginal walls start to stick together. This is not inherently problematic; however the excess skin from the adhesion may cause urine and/or other fluids to become trapped, presenting risk of infection. In many cases, the condition goes away when the girl starts building her estrogen back up, but this usually doesn't happen until years later. The typical treatment is to apply an estrogen cream for a few weeks, which I was hesitant to do. However, as the weeks went by and the condition appeared to not be going away, so we've started to apply the cream. I've already seen some improvement, so it's looking pretty positive!

Engineers Poster
So the latest craze on Facebook is putting up posters describing "What ____ do". I usually don't get caught up in these Facebook group activities, but the "What I Think I Do" panel is spot on!
