The Harbin Travelogue continues! Days 3 and 4 manuscripts below:

Snow

The thid day, we went to Polarland. I saw polar bears, belugas performing a show, fish, and a walrus and sea lion show. The belugas were performing with two women. The walrus first performed in the Walrus and sea lion show. The walrus communicated with people. And the sea lions swam very fast and jumped very high.

It snowed on Day 3!

For the boy too :D

Something we don't see every day - the "heart of the sea"

I've never actually seen polar bears before. The cage was a little depressing but it was still cool to see polar bears up close!

After that, we went out of Polarland and played with snow for a while. We sat on the bus for hours to go home because we were stuck in traffic.

Then, we went home.

Weather OK

On the fourth day, my family and I tried to find the Russian show. We found the old Russian theater, but it was closed. Then, my mommy and my daddy found out that they moved to another place. We didn't go to the new Russian show because we didn't know where it was and it was too late.

So, instead of going to the new Russian show, we walked across the Songjiang river. My mom was very scared to walk on the ice because when you fall through the ice you'll never come out and you will die.

Walking across the frozen Songjiang river

My dad fell on the ice with my brother and my brother screamed and crawled to the ice that was covered in snow because he thought that part was regular land.

That evening, me, my dad and my brother made tiny snowmen near the Sophia Church.

I never knew it was so hard to make snowmen...

Fifi's Harbin Travelogue, Entry No. 1: Days 1 and 2

I alluded to it in the last post - a special miniseries chronicling the events of the family's 2018 winter vacation. This time it was to the frigid winter wonderland of China's northeast - Harbin!

Due to the length of the trip, we'll split the blog posts over a few entries. Below, the first several pages of Fifi's manuscript:

My Trip to Harbin
By: Sofia

My family and I went on at trip to Harbin. It took 3 hours to fly from Chengdu to Harbin. The day we flew from to Harbin we went to Lao Dao Wai and Zhong Yang Da Jie. Our hotel is very close to the Saint Sophia Church, so we can go there really easy easily. My brother and my dad bought Coco.

At Lao Dao Wai I saw statues of people doing diffrent things like playing an instrument called er hu, selling bao zi and playing Chinese chess.

At Zhong Yang Da Jie we saw snow sculptrues and people making ice sculptrues. Then, we bought ma di er ice creams and hot dogs.

Harbin's Red Sausages... not very tasty...

Harbin's famous "Ma Di Er", or "Modern" brand of ice cream!

My mom went home to to work, so me, my brother, and my dad ate McDonald. We ate McDonald every day my mom worked.

The second day, we took an old train to go to Yabuli Ski Resort. I knew the train was old because it is green.

The old "green-skinned" trains of China's days past!

When we got to Yabuli, a crazy lady told us she would buy the tickets for us and we pay her the money. She payed the tickets. An hour later, my mom asked a helper coach if we could go to the first level corse course. The coach said no because our tickets are for the medium level course. Then, my mom got very mad, so she called the crazy lady. My mom asked her why she didn't buy the first level tickets. The lady said I don't she didn't know.

Cherry had to push the kids back up the basic hill...

The Medium level course was 1500m long... a little tough for Cherry and the kids... but it was awesome for me!

When we were done skiing, we went into a building, took off our skis and returned them to the front desk. Before we went back ho home to the hotel we went to a park with a wooden brige bridge near the train station. We walked across the bridge where a lot of snow is was. We played in the snow for about 10 minutes. Then, we went in took the old train to go back to the hotel.

We ate our dad's favorite Guo Bao Rou. We oder also ordered fry fried ice creams, cauliflower, pork intestine. My favorite food dish was the fried ice cream.

Guo Bao Rou (锅包肉) a famous Harbin dish consisting of sweet and sour deep fried meat, originally conceived 100 years ago to appeal to the palates of Russian dignitaries who often visited the city
